SUMMARY:As You Like It
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE PLAY: The Palm Beach Shakespeare Festival is proud to present its production of William Shakespeare’s AS YOU LIKE IT. Banished from her kingdom\, the resourceful Rosalind and her friends escape to the forest where they are free to explore new identities\, friendships\, and love in this delightful romantic comedy. \nAS YOU LIKE IT is a beloved and iconic Shakespearean comedy. Though most of the play takes place in the forest\, the play is structured like a ‘city comedy’\, as the audience is introduced to character after character\, each interesting and endearing. Like nearly all early modern plays\, As You Like It features music\, but the quantity of music and the larger cast size implies that this piece was designed for court performance. It is speculated that this was performed before the court of Queen Elizabeth I in her Richmond Palace in 1603. It is also speculated that this play was the inaugural performance at the newly constructed Globe Theatre in 1599\, alongside plays like Henry V and Julius Caesar. We are excited to share this joyous comedy with Royal Palm Beach and with several student groups around Palm Beach County. \nPRODUCTION DETAILS: The Shakespeare by the Palms V production of AS YOU LIKE IT is presented by The Village of Royal Palm Beach and will place on January 30 – February 2\, 2025 at the Commons Park Amphitheater in Commons Park\, located at 11600 Poinciana Blvd\, Royal Palm Beach\, FL 33411.
